Production Positions:

Chautauqua Theater Company invites applications for production positions for its 2017 summer season. Contracts run 9-12 weeks starting in early/mid June, housing provided. Technical Director

Professional Experience required.
Responsibilities include:

  • Encouraging a positive, collaborative, and pleasant work environment
  • Supervising and coordinating the scene shop crew and scenic artists as needed
  • Creating a detailed schedule, including all working days/hours, in conjunction with the Production Manager
  • Maintaining the Scene Shop in a clean and organized state, including the areas immediately outside of the scene shop building
  • Maintaining the inventory of tools and equipment
  • Facilitating the safety of all those working in the shop by:
  • Providing the necessary safety supplies
  • Training the crew as necessary
  • Ensuring there are no unnecessary hazards
  • Removing unsafe tools from service
  • Facilitating the construction, load-in, and maintenance of the scenery for all productions, including New Play Workshops, while maintaining a safe working environment
  • Acting as the liaison between the company and the scenic designer(s) in obtaining the information necessary for the construction and installation of the production scenery
  • Planning and installation of rigging for productions as needed, following generally accepted rigging practices
  • Reviewing preliminary design submittals, and providing an initial budget estimate for time and materials (pre-season)
  • Providing complete technical drawings for each production prior to construction
  • Providing a detailed budget projection for each production prior to construction (typically pre-season)
  • Ordering all materials and supplies required for construction of scenery and maintenance of the scene shop
  • Managing the budget of Scenic Dept., ensuring no overages, and providing detailed expenditure information to the Production Manager in a timely fashion
  • During production, facilitate the clean-up of the theater, including the removal of waste
  • Facilitate the safe removal of all scenery and scenic materials
  • Attendance at all Production Meetings

Administrative Positions:

Business/Office Manager

Responsibilities Include:

  • Process and maintain financial documentation and contract compliance.
  • Coordinate IT services for theatre and administration offices.
  • Maintain the Managing Director’s calendar
  • Serve as Office Manager in areas of supplies, signage, and office organization.
  • Assist in house management and ticketing as necessary along with managing the ticket kiosk schedule
  • Collaborate with the marketing, artistic, and company management team as necessary
  • Must be familiar with Quickbooks online budgeting software
